Answers to the questions we hear most from families exploring home healthcare options.

General

General Questions

Home healthcare is professional medical and non-medical care provided in the comfort of your own home. It encompasses a wide range of services designed to help individuals recover from illness or surgery, manage chronic conditions, or simply receive the daily assistance they need to live safely and independently at home. Services can include skilled nursing, personal care assistance with bathing and dressing, physical and occupational therapy, medication management, companion care, and much more. Home healthcare is often recommended by physicians as an alternative to extended hospital stays or nursing facility placement, allowing patients to heal and thrive in the familiar, comfortable environment of their own home.

MedLink Home Care distinguishes itself through our unwavering commitment to quality, transparency, and personalized care. We are a licensed Georgia home healthcare agency that goes far beyond minimum state requirements in every area of our operation. Our rigorous caregiver screening process includes federal, state, and county-level background checks, credential verification, drug screening, and in-person interviews. Every caregiver participates in our comprehensive training program and ongoing education requirements. What truly sets us apart is our 5-Star Promise, a formal quality guarantee that encompasses qualified caregivers, personalized care plans, ongoing clinical supervision, responsive communication, and a complete satisfaction guarantee. We also offer a personalized caregiver matching process that considers not just skills and availability but also personality, interests, and cultural compatibility to ensure the best possible fit for your family.

MedLink Home Care proudly serves families across multiple counties throughout Georgia. Our current service areas include Gwinnett County, DeKalb County, Cobb County, Fulton County, Bibb County, Macon County, Sumter County, Randolph County, Peach County, and Dooly County. We are continuously expanding our service area to reach more families in need of quality home healthcare. If you live in a county not listed here, we encourage you to contact us anyway, as we may be able to accommodate your needs or connect you with resources in your area. Services

Services Questions

MedLink Home Care offers a comprehensive range of home healthcare services to meet diverse needs. Our services include skilled nursing care for wound management, medication administration, and chronic disease monitoring; personal care assistance with bathing, grooming, dressing, and mobility; companion care for social engagement, conversation, and light housekeeping; physical therapy and rehabilitation for recovery and mobility improvement; live-in services for individuals who need around-the-clock support; respite care to give family caregivers much-needed breaks; specialized veterans care tailored to the unique needs of those who served; and post-surgery care to support safe recovery at home. Each service can be provided independently or combined into a comprehensive care plan tailored to your specific needs.

Yes, MedLink Home Care provides 24-hour care options for clients who require continuous support. We offer both 24-hour live-in care, where a caregiver resides in the home and is available around the clock, and 24-hour shift care, where multiple caregivers rotate in shifts to ensure continuous, alert coverage throughout the day and night. Live-in care is ideal for clients who need a consistent presence but may not require hands-on assistance at all hours, while shift care is recommended for clients with more intensive needs, such as those requiring frequent repositioning, nighttime medication, or close monitoring. Our care coordinators will help you determine which option best fits your loved one's needs and your family's budget during the in-home assessment.

MedLink Home Care primarily specializes in home healthcare services for adults and seniors. However, we understand that children with special healthcare needs may also require in-home support. We encourage families with pediatric care needs to contact us directly to discuss their situation. Depending on the specific requirements, we may be able to provide appropriate services through our skilled nursing team, or we can help connect you with specialized pediatric home healthcare resources in your area. Our care coordinators are knowledgeable about the broader healthcare landscape in Georgia and are always happy to help families find the right care, even when it falls outside our primary service offerings.

At MedLink Home Care, client safety is always our top priority. Every caregiver is trained in CPR, First Aid, and emergency response protocols. In the event of a medical emergency, our caregivers are trained to call 911 immediately and provide first aid as needed until emergency medical services arrive. They then notify MedLink's on-call supervisor and your emergency contacts right away. For non-life-threatening urgent situations, caregivers contact our 24/7 on-call support line for guidance from a clinical supervisor who can help assess the situation and determine the appropriate course of action. We also maintain detailed emergency plans for each client that include emergency contacts, physician information, hospital preferences, and any relevant medical conditions. These protocols are reviewed regularly and updated as needed to ensure the fastest, most appropriate response in any situation.

Caregivers

Caregiver Questions

MedLink Home Care maintains one of the most rigorous caregiver screening processes in Georgia's home healthcare industry. Every candidate must successfully pass a comprehensive multi-step process that includes federal, state, and county-level criminal background checks; verification of all professional licenses and certifications with issuing institutions; a minimum of two verified professional references from former employers; a comprehensive drug screening with random testing throughout employment; a thorough in-person interview assessing communication skills, empathy, and caregiving passion; and a hands-on skills assessment demonstrating practical competency. Only candidates who pass every step of this process are eligible to join our team. We also require all caregivers to complete our MedLink orientation program, maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications, and participate in at least 12 hours of continuing education annually. Learn more about our qualification standards.

Absolutely. We strongly encourage a meet-and-greet between you or your loved one and the assigned caregiver before care officially begins. We understand that inviting someone into your home is a deeply personal decision, and we want you to feel completely comfortable and confident in your caregiver before the first day of service. During the meet-and-greet, you will have the opportunity to get to know your caregiver, ask questions about their experience and approach to care, discuss your preferences and expectations, and ensure there is a good personal connection. If after meeting the caregiver you feel the match is not quite right, we will gladly identify another caregiver who may be a better fit. Your comfort is our priority, and we will make as many introductions as needed until you find the right person.

Continuity of care is extremely important to us, and we have robust backup systems in place to ensure your care is never interrupted. If your primary caregiver is ill, has a personal emergency, or is otherwise unavailable, our staffing team will immediately arrange a qualified replacement caregiver who has been briefed on your care plan, preferences, and routines. We maintain a team of experienced backup caregivers who are familiar with our standards and ready to step in at short notice. In most cases, we can arrange a replacement within just a few hours. We will always communicate with you proactively about any scheduling changes and introduce you to the replacement caregiver. Your primary caregiver will return as soon as they are available, ensuring the continuity and familiarity that is so important to quality care.

Yes. MedLink Home Care understands the importance of effective communication in providing quality care, especially for clients who are more comfortable speaking a language other than English. Our diverse team of over 500 caregivers includes professionals who speak a variety of languages. During the caregiver matching process, we take language preferences into account along with all other factors to ensure the best possible fit. While we cannot guarantee availability for every language in every service area at all times, we make every effort to accommodate language requests. Please let your care coordinator know about any language preferences during your initial consultation so we can plan accordingly.

Cost & Payment

Cost & Payment Questions

The cost of home healthcare varies depending on several factors, including the type of services needed, the number of hours per day, the frequency of visits per week, and the level of clinical expertise required. Personal care and companion care services are generally less expensive than skilled nursing or specialized therapy services. At MedLink Home Care, we are committed to complete pricing transparency. During your free consultation and in-home assessment, we will provide a detailed, itemized cost estimate so you know exactly what to expect. There are no hidden fees, no surprise charges, and no unexplained costs. We also offer a free cost consultation to help you explore all available payment options and maximize any insurance benefits you may have. Learn more about our payment options.

Many types of insurance can help cover the cost of home healthcare services. Long-term care insurance policies often cover personal care, skilled nursing, companion services, and respite care. MedLink works directly with most major long-term care insurance providers to verify benefits and manage claims on your behalf. Additionally, Georgia's Medicaid waiver programs, specifically the Community Care Services Program (CCSP) and SOURCE, can cover qualifying home healthcare services for eligible individuals. Veterans and their surviving spouses may qualify for the VA Aid and Attendance benefit, which provides monthly financial assistance for home care. Workers' compensation may also cover home healthcare if the need arises from a work-related injury. Our care coordinators are experienced at helping families navigate these options and will work with you to maximize your available benefits.

MedLink Home Care strives to be as flexible as possible to accommodate the unique needs of every family. While we do have minimum visit durations to ensure our caregivers can provide meaningful, quality care during each visit, we work with families to create schedules that fit their needs and budgets. Whether you need just a few hours of help each week or around-the-clock 24-hour care, we can design a care plan that works for you. During your consultation, your care coordinator will discuss scheduling options and help you determine the right amount of care for your situation. We can always adjust the schedule as your needs change over time.

Getting Started

Getting Started

At MedLink Home Care, we understand that the need for care can arise suddenly and urgently. In many cases, we can begin providing care within 24 to 48 hours of your initial contact. For urgent situations, such as hospital discharges or sudden changes in health, we can often arrange same-day or next-day service. Our streamlined intake process and large team of qualified, available caregivers allow us to respond quickly without sacrificing the quality of our caregiver matching or care planning. During your initial consultation, let your care coordinator know your timeline and we will do everything possible to accommodate your needs.

For most of our non-medical services, such as personal care, companion care, and homemaker services, a doctor's referral is not required. You or a family member can contact us directly to arrange these services. However, for certain skilled nursing services and therapy services, a physician's order may be required, particularly if care is being covered by insurance or Medicaid waiver programs. Some insurance policies and programs also require a physician's referral as part of their coverage requirements. Our care coordinators can help you determine whether a referral is needed for your specific situation and can assist with obtaining one from your physician if necessary. Regardless of referral requirements, anyone can call us at any time for a free, no-obligation consultation to discuss care options.

To make the most of your in-home assessment, it is helpful to have the following information available, although none of it is required to get started. A current list of medications, including dosages and schedules, helps our team understand your medical management needs. Any recent medical records, hospital discharge paperwork, or physician's notes provide valuable context about your health history and current condition. Contact information for your primary care physician and any specialists you see regularly helps us coordinate care effectively. Insurance cards or policy information, if applicable, allows us to begin verifying coverage. And perhaps most importantly, a list of your questions, concerns, and priorities for care helps us understand what matters most to you. If you do not have all of this information readily available, that is perfectly fine. Your care coordinator will work with you to gather what is needed at a pace that is comfortable for you.

Yes. MedLink Home Care believes in flexibility and puts your family's needs first. You are never locked into a long-term contract, and you can adjust, increase, decrease, or discontinue services at any time. We understand that care needs evolve, and we are committed to adapting with you. If you need to change your schedule, modify services, switch caregivers, or pause care temporarily, simply contact your care coordinator and we will make the necessary adjustments promptly. If you decide to discontinue services entirely, we will manage the transition smoothly and can provide recommendations for other resources if needed. We only ask for reasonable notice when possible so we can plan accordingly, but we understand that unexpected changes happen and we will always work with you to accommodate your needs.
